Hungarian CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND Poster (1977)

Here's a cool find - a Hungarian one-sheet for Steven Spielberg's classic 1977 UFO epic, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind. It has a funky quality I kinda dig.

I have no information on the artist's identity, but, as always, if anyone has info to share, post it in the comments!

  1. Love this poster! It looks like it was done by someone who hadn't actually seen the film -- or even any production stills -- but who had only a description to work from.
Devil's Tower is front and center as it should be, but the UFOs are straight out of Earth vs the Flying Saucers, and the two men look nothing like anyone in the film. And what's with the 50s style car...generic Americana perhaps? Likewise the red, white and blue sunglasses.
Regardless of the inaccuracies, this poster is a gem!
    Thanks for sharing.

  2. Ad campaigns in foreign markets used to produce some really weird and interesting interpretations, before everything became so unified and rigid. Perhaps the artist perceived the film as an homage to classic '50s saucer films? I think a publicity photo showing technicians in sunglasses watching the landing of the Mother Ship was used as reference for the men in black types.
